A unique, mountainous realm; natural snow on the ski slopes, which, due to the highland conditions, are never icy; sunshine; air that clears the mind; enchanting views; and skiing in late spring when the cherry trees are blossoming and the lively waters start roaring in the valley – This is Kanin.
KANIN, a mountain illuminated by the sun, rises above a group of peaks that look down to the Mediterranean. Here the Alps gradually fade into the Friulian plain. Its mighty, white presence enables this mountain to hold dominion over the Land of Snow.
KANIN is the mountain symbol of the land of Bovec, just as the valleys beneath it constitute a real jewel in the picturesque Alpine treasure chest. The ample plateaus hosting ski slopes, the rocky towers rising out of them, and the peaks protecting the arena form an inconspicuous mountain region. KANIN has the charm of the southern sun kissing the northern moon. Here the Karst meets Central Europe, and from here the Gulf of Trieste is seen along with the core of the Alps. |

KANIN SKI RESORT
Kanin reaches its true potential in the winter. The ski resort's altitude above sea level (up to 2 300m), the thickness of the snow cover (up to a few meters) and the splendidly maintained pistes will impress even the most demanding guests.
One double-seat chair lift, one three-seat chair lift, the completely new four-seat chair lift that takes you to the Italian border (Sella Nevea), a cable car and a children's ski tow will all make sure the waiting lines are short and the skiing made even more pleasant. The skiing enthusiasts will enjoy rushing down the newest piste of Prevala and above all skiing down the more than two kilometres of the Skripi piste, which has - due to its beauty, grand view over the Bovec basin and the entire Julian Alps including Triglav - become the trademark Kanin. The pistes Veliki Graben and Podi with its children's ski tow are suitable for children and the less-skilled skiers. All who find well-maintained pistes limiting may enjoy ski touring along the huge expanses of the Kanin-Rombon mountain range, starting with the best known valley of Krnica.
The services of this high-altitude ski resort – the only one in Slovenia - are further complemented by a skiing school, ski equipment rental services, restaurant and bistro at the ski piste, and tandem paragliding.

Kanin is the only ski resort in Slovenia, where skiing terrain is located more than 2 000 m above sea level. It lies above Bovec, a town by the river Soča, known world-wide. Kanin is a high-altitude ski resort where the skiing season lasts from December through the beginning of May. The centre is accessible by an almost six-kilometres-long cable car system that was overhauled in 2003. The ski resort is made special by its sunny location, while the views from the ski pistes reach the heart of the Alps as well as the sea. During snow-rich winters a ski tour along the valley of Krnica is possible under the guidance of an experienced guide.
Another special feature is the possibility to ski in three countries: the ski pistes of Sella Nevea and Traviso in Italy and Arnoldstein in Austria. A guest that owns a five, six or seven-day ski pass can ski on those pistes for two days at no additional cost. More at: www.slo-skiing.net
